Im not too sure about this Donna but i'm sure others will be able to advise.
I had a very quick look on NRAS pages but nothing jumped out, for peace of mind i would definitely mention it to Gp or rheumy nurse. Are they causing you any problems / pain?
Im glad you're feeling positive - i think that is the most important way of getting through this, & it's so lovely we have this group so we never need to feel alone xxxxx

those might be RA nodules, little leaks of synovial fluid my consultant said, and quite common from the small hand joints. mine go up and down according to the amount of inflammation i have. they are like a canary warning me-the-miner that something is up. if they are nodules i *think* they sometimes drain them to increase movement if they are hindering it, but that is only a temporary measure usually.

Hi Donna,
I'm so glad the forum is helping you and you are not as scared as you were.
The trick is for you to control the RA, not the other way round and in time you will do it.
Ask as many questions as you like, someone usually has an answer!
Mention the lumps on your wrist to your GP or rheumy nurse , they could be nodules but difficult to say without seeing them.

Love, Doreen xx

Hi Donna

if they are nodules, they wont be going down, they can be removed by surgery but can regrow.

People who smoke are more likely to get them, in fact if you smoke, you get more severe disease, more pain and quicker progression so if you can cut down or give up it will really help.

early on it is more likely to be swelling related that will go down again- but not always.

so pleased you found the forum welcoming.

Hi Donna,

yes, I have these hard lumps in my wrists, forearms and elbows. They have been diagnosed as rheumatoid nodules, and are a bit sore when inflammation is up, but otherwise I can ignore them most of the time and at the moment can be left alone.

The others are right, someone needs to look at yours to be sure.

Another bit of the whacky world of RA!!

( ps and I've never smoked!!)

take care
love
Alison

I dont smoke either and have a couple.

there was a big article in the NRAS magazine about it and I have very vivid memories of the RA patients who smoked having loads of nodules and when I read the article thought "thats why!"

They will (most likely) be nodules- you should ask the rheumy though to be sure.

I have these too - they sound like Nodules - my Rhuem nurse says MTX can make them more prevalent...

Mine are tiny (like lentils!) but each time I go to clinic my rheum team checks them out so you should bring your to their attention.

I also have a few on other parts of my body too where they are a bit more troublesome - one was hidden in heel area somewhere and was giving me bother when walking so my consultant gave me a steroid jab into the nodule - I'll admit it wasn't a painless procedure but afterwards (an d now - 12 weeks later) I am virtually pain free in that area.

Welcome to the forum!
